Counselling

What is Counselling?
Counselling is about finding ways to deal with problems through discussion, talking and listening. It is not the same as advice, but is about understanding how someone feels about something, and how they can deal with these feelings. While Counselling may involve sharing information, a counseller will not tell someone what to do, but instead give them the knowledge about the situation and the feelings of themselves and others which allows someone to achieve independence and confidence.

Counselling can also be offered for larger groups before HIV testing, or for debriefing or family issues, but is usually one-to-one.
